softball
uh-oh. I found out a few hours ago, that I have to play sport tomorrow at school. For some reason I'm not sure why, tomorrow afternoon lots of the teachers are playing sports, in the afternoon during a week of school tests in the mornings (the cleverer teachers have decided to take paid leave that afternoon, which is why i've been roped into play with 2nd year teachers). I'm not sure whose bright idea it was, but I have to play softball tomorrow. And I have so little enthusiasm for doing it. At least it'll be something different, rather than sitting at my desk doing nothing. But I'm terrible at team sports, especially ones that require catching and hitting a ball with a long thin stick. They don't seem to quite understand that we don't have softball (or baseball) in England. [One teacher said, 'maybe it's like cricket' - er, yeah right!] The closest I've come to it is rounders I guess. But I'm happy to keep saying 'I've never played it before' to keep any high expectations at bay, and as excuse for my awful sporting abilities.
Oh dear. It's going to be awful. But I guess I shall just have to make the best of it! - Usual technique involving standing in a place where no one intends to hit the ball to, and just attempting to connect with the ball when batting, but enjoying cheering for everyone else instead- 'ROUNDER, ROUNDER, ROUNDER, ROUNDER' - well, we used to say that at St Nick's anyway.
