crazy clubs

In class today:
Me: "Do you have any plans for the summer holiday?"
Student: "I'm planning to do club activities."
Me: "Which club do you belong to?"
Student: "Baseball."
Me: "So, how long for?"
Student: "Every day."

I.e. in Japan students don't go on holiday. If they're in a sports club (which, at my school is quite a lot) they come to school EVERY DAY in the heat and humidity of the summer, and do club activities. Crazy.
And in term time they don't just practice after school. At lunch times they're out sweeping the playing field & before school the athletics club are always practising/ brass band are playing their scales. It's mad.... But I guess it keeps them out of trouble.
