bread
Japanese bread is generally all white and pretty much has no taste... But I like it!
NB The loaves are really small. When my brother was here, I remembering him saying something about I'd bought a half loaf of bread, & I was like, 'No, that's the biggest loaf you can buy here!' - notice the 6 slices! Although there are a couple of decent bakeries in the city and stuff where you can get baguettes and different kinds, I don't tend to bother with that expensive stuff! In Japanese, the word for bread is pan - i.e. taken from the French, pain. I remember once reading someone commenting on a sign they thought was funny in Japan- cafe et pain (i think) outside a coffee shop. They said it meant cafe of pain, but actually it's accurate french for 'coffee and bread'.

Hi Hannah: I just read your blog to Paul. He agrees that is good bread. Of course, he is a white bread lover. It is one of the things he longs for when he thinks of Japan. We also liked the cream roll which was made like a jelly roll but with white cream in it. We had it with sweetened strawberries over it. Food is good stuff. Love, Cathy
