French ice cream

I had some friends round for Bible study the other day. One friend had kindly cooked & another brought dessert. There was no room for the ice cream in the freezer, so we thought it wouldn't be too bad if we just left it outside. [Btw, it's a really mild winter over here at the moment, which is so nice. Hardly any snow, apart from a bit on my first cycle back up to school in January.]
When we got to dessert, we opened up the box, which cunning contained half chocolate on one side, and vanilla on the other. Why bother buying a vanilla box and another chocolate one when you can get 2 in1 ?! Anyway, when I scooped it out, I said, "Oh, it's like French ice cream." Nice and soft.
Mum said over the holidays, that when we were kids we always associated French ice cream with being nice and soft. But it wasn't because of the ice cream so much as the strength of the freezers in the places we stayed in. Obviously the winter cold of Rifu is about the same - or has the same effect on ice cream, as French freezers in the heat of summer... And very good ice cream it was too.
