samurai

Using the convenience of the 'bi-lingual' button on my remote control, I'm currently watching, but not paying much attention to The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise. Seeing a few fight -type scenes reminds me of a little boy at church, Towa, who can't be more than 2. His favourite toy seems to be a shoe horn, with which he pretends to be a samurai, whipping the shoe horn/sword through the air. What's entertaining is his stance. When I did taiko, we had to stand just so, with one leg in front of the other, each feet pointing in different directions, leaning back and crouching slightly. Towa goes into samurai pose kind of without thinking - maybe its in his Japanese blood. Or he watches too many samurai dramas on tv or has seen lots in picture books or something. But it's definitely different to watching any 2 year old Western kid!

I'd like to see him putting his shoes on. Blam, splat, kapow!
