bready things

I said a week or so ago, that I missed easily available bready snacks in the UK, ones that are to be found in combinis here. But I had forgotten how annoying it actually is- probably 40% have cream down the middle (why?!), and the rest have so much butter and other bits that you don't necessarily want in a bread roll (e.g. mayonnaise), that you have to scrape lots of it off on the plastic wrapping it comes in. Sorry if I sound a bit hypocrytical. But for all their healthy diet and all, you wonder how these Japanese people get away with it. - & Do they think that all we eat in the West is bread and cream - and chips and hamburgers cold for lunch - and deep fried things every day? It's weirdly part of the Japanese diet more so than you think. [In students' bento lunch boxes, it's basically half rice and half cold meat - like a bit of hamburger, some battered shrimp, and other colourful bits and pieces. But if they choose just to have bread for lunch, it's bread with a mayo- pizza topping, or filled with chocolate and cream. A bit strange I think.]
