all revealed - 潮干狩り - shiohigari

well I've just got back from Gamo 蒲生 tidal beach in Sendai.
I met Yukiko (old tutor)'s Mum and nephews and younger sister in Rifu at 9:10am (her sister is the glammed up spitting image of her) .
We drove for about half an hour, til we could see the sea & went round the houses a bit and pulled up in a car park where we could see surfers. Taking a bucket and trowel and a few other bits and pieces, we walked over some small rocks (but big in the eyes of the 2 boys) to the beach. It was great. Just a bit south of the ferry port in Tagajo, from where you can take the ferry to Hokkaido. The sand was VERY soft, and the little boys were having fun finding sticks and trying to splash me with water. Yukiko's sister and Mum were starting to rummage through bits of wet sand using the trowel or their hands. When I asked what they were looking for, the answer was アサリ- according to my electronic dictionary, Japanese littlenecks.
Mrs Chiba said her friends hadn't turned up and was on the phone to them. Eventually we dried our feet off from paddling in the sea and went off in search of lunch.
At the combini, we got a call from her friend and went back to the same spot as before. But instead of being in the sea, her clam picking friend was in the shallow water next to the car park, in the bit besides the rocks. We picked some shells from the muddy wet sand,
got changed, and went home via a tour of the Kirin brewery.
Unfortunately I don't think i'll be able to try any of our catch, because they dropped me off in time for my Japanese lesson tonight in Sendai. Oh well.
It was nice to go to the sea and a nice beach and rummage around in the wet sand for shells. Shame I didn't have my swimming cossie, but it might have been a bit cold. Anyway, I seem to have an allergic reaction in my eye- or maybe it's just my eyes are still a bit tired from before.
Bye for now.
