I spent part of the weekend reading this good book (well, it's a selection of short stories in fact). Short stories usually annoy me because they are weird, but these are not too bad! Mostly about either Indian immigrants, or Bengali people in their homeland, the book had nice touches and made for easy reading. I liked Mrs Sen, the frustrated university professor's wife, who couldn't quite cope with life in America; the lady whose ills could only be cured if she had a family of her own; & the man who had a sense of achievement, having lived in 3 different continents in his lifetime. Maybe I sympathised with them all in their various ways. I've wondered if I could use my cross cultural (out of my culture) experience here, and do something useful for non Brits when I'm back home. If any one has any leads, ideas, people you know or info that could help, please get in touch! thanksI recommend to you Jhumpa Lahiri's 'Interpreter of Maladies'.
