Midori no Hi
Today is a national holiday, one of many in Japan. Now it's Greenery Day. Now I know that it's the national holiday all over Japan, despite the varying temperatures here (bit like England: I'm in a position similar to Durham to London/ me to Tokyo), but the Japanese seem to have their finger on the pulse concerning the weather.
To cut a long story short, yesterday, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. But, guess what happened today? Loads of them turned green (ie green leaves/ shoots started to appear). Incredible! It must just be the flukey north-east climes and the apt national holiday. (Btw, national holidays are done by specific dates here, so if a national holiday falls on a Sat, people working Mon-Fri don't get a day off; but if it happens to be on a Sunday, people get the next Monday off instead.)
So I had a nice time seeing the green cherry blossoms in the city today!

Your bank holiday sounds like it's going much better than mine is... I'm locked indoors writing essays (which, true to usual form, I've left until the last minute! Have to get THREE written today... somehow, I'm sure I'll manage it. The adrenalin will kick in any time now... I hope...sooner rather than later would be good... please...) Off to the USofA in less that 48 hours, and all these essays have to be submitted before I leave - and I am at work all day tomorrow!
The housemates are outside having a BBQ, which is wafting lovely, but very distracting, smells through the french doors in my bedroom... Might have to go and have a burger shortly, perhaps it will aid my concentration levels?
Anyway, I look forward to enviously catching up on blog entries when I get back!
Oh - and - going back to what was being said about Eltham - I was there last week, and when I came back to my car, there was a drunk tramp slumped across the bonnet of the car next to me! The driver obviously wasn't sure what to do, so had just got in and started the engine... He (the tramp) was waving his arms in the air and grunting a lot, but was so drunk, he couldn't get himself up off of the car... all of a sudden, another tramp turned up, armed with a couple of cans of heineken, and he pulled him up off the bonnet of the car and let him slump face down on the next car....
You've got to love Eltham! Never a dull moment...!
;o)
