You've got to love Japan

Just thinking as I tuck into my dinner tonight, freshly bought from the combini [convenience store- Japan is full of them: there are at least a few in every town. The Japanese equivalent of corner shops I guess!] Today, I went to Family Mart on the way home from school: currently one of my favourites, because it stocks muji products -whoo, and the staff are friendly. After offering to heat up my food (as they always do), the cashier proceeded to put some chopsticks in the carrier bag too (also as always). But then noticing I'm a foreigner & possibly remembering me from before (my inability to speak Japanese & fathom the multi-purpose ticket machine [from which you can buy long distance coach tickets, cinema tickets, airline tickets, football match tickets, to name a few]), an older chap working in the shop put a fork, and then a plastic spoon in my bag too!
They could've come in useful the other night, when I was at a yakiniku (Korean BBQ) restaurant with some fellow JETs and a JET's visiting parents. After having asked for a knife and fork for said parents, the waiter produced the one sole fork the restaurant possessed, and 2 pairs of scissors! Thank goodness the rest of us could use chopsticks! Not quite sure how they intended the scissors to be used, but never mind!!

I'm loving this blog dear bananatree. Isn't the rest of Golden Week bearing down on you, or do I have my dates mixed up? Muji as in no brand name? At a combini? That is a plus! The food looks really nice. Hold your hashi high and itadakimasu.

Hello! Yeah, that's right - the no brand name indeed!
I have to work tomorrow (Tues) but Golden Week starts on Weds 3rd. I'll be going around Tohoku a bit. ... Including a couple of days by the sea at Takeyama (going with a few people from Rod & Glenda's church), then hoping to see the sakura at Hirosaki in Aomori. Will be go-go-go, but am relieved to have some things planned!
Looking forward to when you'll be back in Japan.
